An extension to the existing object which had already been decided was completely changed in the course of patient planning talks with the clients and the glass construction specialist. The planned “foreign object”, with its poor utilisation possibilities, gave way to the present structure. The canon of forms and the ambience of the villa were preserved and great value placed on optimal utilisation. From this height there is, finally, an unobstructed view of Lake Constance!
The terrace, with as large a usable area as possible, was intended to be enjoyed in good weather, but the client also wanted to be able to spend time in the sheltered conservatory. A pragmatic kitchenette would have disrupted the atmosphere of the house, so a type of dresser was developed in which all the necessary equipment and storage areas are concealed. For this purpose, the locksmith had to develop special hinges in order to safely raise and lower the natural stone countertop under which the sink – with foldaway faucet – and the stove were located.
